Italian Necklaces
A necklace is a type of jewelry or an ornament worn around the neck. The necklaces are made usually by a chain of precious metal, which can serve or not to support the decorative elements (strung like pearls, pendants, etc.)
Over the millennia, the necklace has become gradually more and more refined, starting from the rough file shells or pebbles of primitive times, to reach gold techniques vary according to taste.
Ancient Egyptian craftsmen used various materials to make necklaces, from ivory to precious stones. In addition to a considerable level of fantasy, there was a spread of new techniques for processing precious metals in addition to the watermark and glazes.
Other ancient centers proliferated in such productions of fine necklaces like Crete and Mycenae, featuring necklaces made of amethysts. Etruscan also created necklaces of gold and lace-working, while int the Hellenistic era the Greeks developed their models more creatively, twisted by circles (torques) for the collars of bronze foil. All these elements were incorporated by the Romans who added new grounds by introducing cameos, coral, turquoise, etc.
If the necklaces made from crafts emphasize the use of Byzantine coins and crosses, the goldsmith Barbara abounds in metals and gemstones.
After a period of relative simplicity of medieval times, Renaissance came back in vogue and goldsmith produced masterpieces.
The necklace is one of the jewels used also to bring a symbol to assert membership of a religion or a current of belief, such as a crucifix or a Buddha.
